Los Angeles Chargers left tackle Rashawn Slater will miss the entire 2025 season after suffering a ruptured patellar tendon during practice this week.
The injury was diagnosed by Dr. David Chao, Pro Football Doc, who noted it was a patellar tendon rupture and not a torn ACL. Practice injuries are rarely captured on video, but Chao’s evaluation came from available footage.
By video, Pro Football Doc stated, " We’re not being overly dramatic here. The good news is, a lot of times people say it’s got to be an ACL if it’s non-contact. The good news is we don’t think so. The bad news is the way his knee collapsed and gave way — we hope it’s not something worse like a patellar tendon rupture." The Chargers later confirmed the video analysis.
Slater, who signed a contract extension in the offseason, is a key part of the Chargers’ offensive line and his loss is a significant setback for quarterback protection and the team’s playoff hopes.
