Game Preview

The Philadelphia Eagles (4-1) travel to take on the New York Giants (1-4) at MetLife Stadium for Thursday Night Football. Both teams are coming off disappointing Week 5 losses: the Eagles fell in the final quarter against Denver, and the Giants were beaten soundly by New Orleans. The Eagles swept the series last season and enter as 7.5-point favorites.

The Eagles’ ground game aims to exploit a Giants run defense ranked last in the league. Philadelphia has averaged over 28 rushing attempts per game and could control the tempo if New York’s defense fails to tighten up. Meanwhile, the Giants are seeking answers on offense after costly turnovers and injuries decimated their receiving corps.

Eagles Week 6 Injury and Practice Report

  • RB Saquon Barkley: Knee, Full Participation

  • LG Landon Dickerson: Ankle injury, Did Not Participate, OUT

  • TE Grant Calcaterra: Oblique injury, Did Not Participate, OUT

  • LB Jihaad Campbell: Biceps, Limited, Full Participation, Active

  • DT Byron Young: Triceps, Limited, Full Participation, Active

  • DT Jalen Carter: Heel, Limited, Questionable

  • LB Nakobe Dean: Knee, Full Participation, Questionable

Additional injuries on the Eagles’ reserve list include Johnny Wilson (knee, IR), Darius Cooper (shoulder, IR), and Nolan Smith Jr. (triceps, IR), which thin their depth on both sides of the ball.

Giants Week 6 Injury and Practice Report

  • WR Darius Slayton: Hamstring, Did Not Participate, OUT

  • OL Jermaine Eluemunor: Back, Did Not Participate, Questionable

  • LB Swayze Bozeman: Ankle, OUT

  • LB Demtrius Flannigan-Fowles: Hamstring, OUT

  • S Dane Belton: Shoulder, Limited.

  • S Jevon Holland: Calf, Limited.

  • S Tyler Nubin: Groin, Limited.

  • CB Dru Phillips: Hip, Limited.

  • RB Tyrone Tracy Jr.: Shoulder, Limited.

  • QB Jaxson Dart: Hamstring, Full, expected to start.

Wide receiver depth is a serious concern for the Giants after losing Nabers and likely Slayton. Lil’Jordan Humphrey is expected to be elevated from the practice squad to help fill the gap.

Impact of Injuries

  • Saquon Barkley's knee issue limited his carries last week but he intends to play, which is crucial for the Eagles’ ground game’s dominance. However, with LG Landon Dickerson out, the run blocking could take a hit and put extra pressure on Brett Toth, the replacement, in only his third career start.

  • Grant Calcaterra’s absence means Kylen Granson or Cameron Latu will see increased snaps as the second tight end, impacting Philly's 12 personnel formations.

  • For the Giants without Darius Slayton, rookie Jaxson Dart will have few experienced receivers, putting more on RB Cam Skattebo and Humphrey to deliver.

  • The offensive line shuffles due to Jermaine Eluemunor’s and Bozeman’s injuries could expose Dart to heavy pass rush pressures from the Eagles’ front seven.

  • Defensive injuries to the Giants secondary (Belton, Holland, Nubin, Phillips) give Jalen Hurts a potential advantage in the passing game.

Ultimately, the Eagles have the advantage in depth and health heading into this NFC East battle, but divisional games tend to be unpredictable. Expect the Eagles to challenge the weakened Giants run defense and for injuries to play a major role in the final outcome.
