Astros Injury Report: Jeremy Peña Leaves With Right Knee Soreness, Doubtful Friday

Astros' rookie shortstop Jeremy Peña was pulled from Thursday's game in the fourth inning with right knee soreness.

Jeremy Peña Injury Update

Manager Dusty Baker said postgame on AT&T Sportsnet Southwest that he will likely miss Friday's contest and will be day-to-day going forward.

Peña was grabbing at his right knee after reaching base on an infield single in the top of the fourth inning. Versatile infielder Aledmys Díaz relieved the 24-year-old, who was 3-3 with one run in the game.

Baker said he potentially suffered the injury when his cleats got caught while swinging, but video showed Peña slipping while rounding first after an error by the catcher allowed him to reach second base.

Soreness is a blanket term that normally describes accumulation, whereas Peña appears to suffer the injury on a single play. He will likely undergo further tests this weekend to determine the nature and severity of the ailment.

Peña is batting .276 with an .853 OPS, six home runs, 18 runs, and 20 RBI in 30 games while batting out of the top of Houston's order.
