Why Marvin Harrison Jr. is not Skipping the Entire 2024 NFL Combine

While much has been made about top wideout prospect Marvin Harrison Jr. electing to not participate in drills at the 2024 NFL Combine, he will absolutely undergo the required medical testing.

As Dr. David Chao explained on the most recent Sports Injury Central podcast, no player is allowed to skip the medical process entirely.

There are cases where players elect to just be examined by one physician and have the other medical staff observe, but skipping the medical process entirely would be unprecedented.

Albert Breer reported that Harrison will be in Indianapolis and meet with teams, but the Ohio State product is electing to train for the NFL rather than the specific drills required at the Combine or that universities host at Pro Days.

That means he will undergo the medical examinations that are standard for every player. Notably, team medical staff will likely want to check on this right ankle injury he suffered last September.

While the ankle injury did not keep him out of any game action, it is worth examining to ensure that Harrison is 100% healthy entering the draft and will not have any further issues with the ankle down the road.

Harrison did not miss a game during his college career, but the medical examinations are routine for all players and can even detect issues that aren’t typically caught in young athletes.

While Harrison will notably be absent from the drills that can elevate prospects’ draft stock, he will not be absent from Combine week entirely.
