Rodger Saffold Hopes Shoulder Issues Do Not Haunt Him in Buffalo

Rodger Saffold - 88 SIC Score

Left guard Rodger Saffold is coming off the first Pro-Bowl of his career.

At the same time, the 34 year old was also suffering from lingering shoulder and nerve injuries. He still managed to play 15 games for the Tennessee Titans last season.

Saffold enters his 13th season in the league playing for the Buffalo Bills with an 88 SIC Score. Our team of Pro Football Docs is concerned with his age and recurring shoulder injuries.

The Indiana alum has a long history of injuries, dating all the way to back to his rookie season in 2010. His multitude of shoulder issues caused him to fail his physical with the Raiders after he inked a $45 million deal with the team in 2014.

From 2010 to 2015, Saffold missed significant time because of injuries. Those injuries entailed a neck strain, a dislocated left shoulder, a right shoulder injury, a torn pec and a torn left labrum.

Recently, Saffold has been able to play through his injuries. In each of the last six seasons, Saffold played in 15-plus games. He wore a harness to hold his shoulders in place.

He continued to deal with his ailing shoulders last season. Last December, Saffold also revealed he is suffering from a nerve issue in his shoulder that is causing tingling and numbness.

Saffold did see a specialist, but surgery was not necessary. There is no doubt Saffold will play through his injuries; the question is how long can he keep that up for.

Pro Football Focus gave Saffold a 69.3 overall grade along with a dismal 44.8 pass blocking grade. His pass blocking will need to improve to allow star quarterback Josh Allen to sling the ball downfield.
