Injury And Suspension Leave DeAndre Hopkins With A Low SIC Score

DeAndre Hopkins - SIC Score 65

Once revered as arguably the best WR in the NFL, DeAndre Hopkins has lost a bit of his superstar luster in the eyes of NFL fans. Can the former Houston Texan bounce back in 2022 by staying healthy and returning to his previous levels of success?

Hopkins is coming into the 2022 NFL season with a Sic Score of 65 due to a combination of two factors according to our panel of Pro Football Docs. His suspension first and foremost, 6 games in 2022 for a use of PEDs which automatically takes a big chunk out of his full-season production ceiling. On top of that, Hopkins's injuries from last season, and the fact that he’s 30 years old all lead into a relatively low SIC Score.

What caused the down, lackluster 2021 season?

Hopkins has been known to be an Iron Man of sorts throughout the first eight seasons of his stellar NFL career missing only two games out of 128 possible games. However, in 2021 he suffered a hamstring strain Week 8 which kept him out of three games. Shortly after returning from the soft tissue injury, Hopkins suffered a torn MCL which required season-ending surgery subsequently landing him on IR.

Fantasy Implications

Although Hopkins has been an absolute star in the NFL for years, he’s now 30 years old and coming off a major injury leaving many to think a decline in production is looming.

In fantasy football, the 2022 version of Hopkins poses a potential value being drafted outside the top 40 WRs with his talent however, if you calculate the risk of his 65 SIC Score, is Hopkins really worth it?

In short, if you have a solid foundation at the WR position by the time Hopkins is staring you down on draft day, take a shot on him. Hopkins truly possesses league-winning upside at the WR position at a cost that won’t burn you badly if things don’t go as planned.
