Detroit Lions running back D’Andre Swift has blossomed into a fantasy football superstar over his first two seasons in the NFL. Swift missed 4 games in 2021 due to various injuries but carries a potent SIC score of 94 heading into the 2022 season.
When healthy, the former Georgia Bulldog displayed the traits that could transform into a top duel threat in the NFL.
In the first 10 games of 2021, Swift tallied 137 carries for 555 yards with four rushing touchdowns, adding 53 catches for 420 yards and two receiving TDs. Swift was on a full-season pace of 944 yards, seven touchdowns on the ground and 90 receptions, 714 yards, and three receiving touchdowns before being injured.
Swift suffered a right shoulder SC joint sprain on Thanksgiving, which caused him to miss four games. Our Pro Football Docs said that Swift likely could have returned earlier, but the Lions decided they would be better served to allow him to fully heal although he did return the final two games in limited capacity.
An interesting quote from Lions’ RB coach Duce Staley on Swift playing through injury: “We all know there’s a difference between being injured and hurt. As soon as you step in this building as a running back, Day One training camp, you’re not going to feel the same. There will be some things you have to fight through.”
Swift projects to be the heart of this Lions offense in 2022 and beyond. The team has surrounded him with some very valuable weapons including off-season acquisition WR DJ Chark from the Jaguars, and dynamic rookie WR Jameson Williams out of Alabama who will likely not be ready until midseason. Jared Goff has a slew of weapons around him meaning the Lions can take a sizable jump forward this season with Swift as the feature.
With a SIC score of 94 and no lingering injuries from last season, Swift should be in for an excellent third season for Detroit and should be drafted with confidence.
