Can Miles Sanders Stay Healthy And Perform During A Contract Year?

Miles Sanders - SIC Score 96

Philadelphia Eagles RB Miles Sanders is poised for a healthy season, which is reflected in his SIC health score of a 96 meaning this could mean a big statistical year if he can stay on the field.

As a fantasy owner, if you had confidence in Sanders last season, it might be smart to double down on that stance. Sanders is entering his 4th season in the NFL, and is in a contact year.

The Eagles also brought in all-star WR A.J Brown to improve their offense, which could mean more production for Sanders, as the offense would like to stay balanced and run out the clock when ahead.

Injury History

In the last two seasons, Sanders missed a total of nine games with 5 of them coming in 2021.

On Oct. 24 an ankle sprain caused him to miss three games and land on IR. After he returned, he aggravated the injury on Dec. 5. The aggravation did not cause him to miss any more time due to the ankle sprain.

However, on Dec. 26 Sanders suffered a broken right hand which became a much bigger deal after the Eagles snuck into the 2021 playoffs.

It caused the Penn State product to miss two games, but returned for the team’s wildcard playoff game against Tampa Bay.

In 2020, Sanders missed four games with hamstring and knee issues. In the team’s wildcard playoff game against Seattle, Sanders suffered his second knee issue of the season (reported MCL sprain) which subsequently ended his season.

Fast forward to present day, and the Pro Football Docs have very little concern about any of the injuries Sanders has suffered. We fully expect Sanders to be a full go entering his 4th season.

Fantasy Implications

As we saw last year, the Eagles turned their season around when they started running the ball. The offense took pressure off of QB Jalen Hurts which allowed him to be effective off of play-action and RPOs. Now with the new weapons and expectations to return to the playoffs, the Eagles offense will have tons of pressure to perform.

Sanders is still the teams number one running back and can impact the game with his speed and receiving ability.  Expect Sanders to enter the season healthy and hungry due to it being a contract year.

Concern for hand/metacarpal fracture. Would not be surprised if surgery to accelerate return and ball security.

As @ProFootballTalk reported, There is concern within Eagles that Miles Sanders has a break or a small break in his hand. He came back out with his hand heavily wrapped up. More tests will reveal seriousness tomorrow
