Can Julio Jones Stay Healthy And Rebound In Tampa Bay?

Julio Jones - SIC score 88

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made waves earlier this week when they signed 33-year-old Julio Jones.

Jones remained a free agent deep into the offseason in part because he has missed seven games in each of the last two seasons – and was mostly ineffective when on the field – due to lingering hamstring injuries that plagued both campaigns.

The Pro Football Docs grade Jones at an 88 SIC score due to his continued hamstring issue coinciding with his rising age.

Despite worries about his thrice surgically-repaired right foot that has cost him games in recent years, the Docs have no concern that the foot will impact his play in 2022.

After tying an NFL record with six straight seasons of 1,300-or-more receiving yards, Jones has caught 82 passes for 1,205 yards and four touchdowns.

In his lone season with the Titans in 2021, the future HOFer posted a career-low with 48 targets, 31 receptions, and 43.4 yards per game while missing Week 3-4, 8, 10-12, and 17.

Impact On Chris Godwin

The Docs believe that some of the motivation to bring in the big veteran target is to bridge the gap in the offense while Chris Godwin recovers from his late-December torn ACL.

Godwin was able to avoid the PUP list to open training camp but he carries an SIC score of 62 because he will take around half of the season to return to form.

Godwin caught 98 passes for 1,103 yards and five touchdowns last season before the injury Week 15, and Jones will be in line to take at least half of that production
