Will Joe Burrow Play Through Calf Injury?

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is officially questionable for Monday night's showdown against the Rams.

As discussed on this week’s podcast, the Bengals will consider all possible angles before deciding whether Burrow will play Monday against the Rams.

Burrow officially did not practice on Thursday, but stretched before practice with his fellow teammates and was wearing a sleeve on his right leg.

On Friday, he threw at practice and logged a limited practice. He went through a more intense workout Saturday morning but was still listed as LP.

If the team chooses to sit him this week, it would set up Jake Browning for his first career start.

The bad news for the Bengals is the calf issue won’t be behind Burrow after just one week of rest. It has already lingered from July 27 and will linger into October.

The good news is the injury can be played through and he’s unlikely to make it any worse by continuing to play through.

His Achilles tendon is not in danger and it’s unlikely for him to turn the calf injury into a more severe calf tear.

It will nag him and hinder his ability to run outside the pocket, but he can be effective as a pocket passer.

Through the first two games, Burrow rushed just twice for a combined four yards. He has been sacked 3 times and has a 56.9% completion rate while averaging 152 yards per game.
