San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama is entering the playoffs while dealing with a lingering left-side rib contusion suffered late in the regular season.

The injury occurred after a collision with Paul George, forcing Wembanyama to miss the second half of that game and additional contests during the final week of the regular season. Even so, Wembanyama indicated he is close to full game shape as the postseason begins.

“I’m very close, but we never really go back to 100%, except before your season, the off-season,” Wembanyama said. “There’s always something going on. In terms of regular season shape, I’m very close.”

According to Pro Football Doc, Wembanyama is expected to play and push through the injury in the playoffs.

That is welcome news for the Spurs, who finished with the second-best record in the Western Conference and will open their first-round series Sunday at home against the Portland Trail Blazers in San Antonio.

Wembanyama’s availability remains critical to San Antonio’s postseason hopes. He is one of the frontrunners for NBA MVP and led the Spurs in points, rebounds, and blocks.
