(UPDATE: Wembanyama is listed as doubtful for Wednesday but the Spurs expect him to play in one of the final three games)

San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama exited Monday’s game and was later ruled out with a left rib contusion after colliding with Philadelphia 76ers forward Paul George near midcourt with 10:47 left in the second quarter.

Wembanyama did not return to the bench with the team after halftime, and the Spurs soon announced that the 22-year-old would miss the rest of the game.

The injury comes at a significant time for Wembanyama, who is the favorite for NBA Defensive Player of the Year and also has drawn MVP consideration. He must log at least 20 minutes in one of San Antonio’s final three games to remain eligible for postseason awards.

Wembanyama entered Monday leading the Spurs in scoring at 24.9 points per game, rebounds at 11.6 and blocks at 3.1.
