Tua Tagovailoa will not make his return this Sunday against the Dolphins, although he will return to the practice field today, Miami head coach Mike McDaniels told reporters.
The plan is to start Skylar Thompson, McDaniels said. Thompson replaced quarterback Teddy Bridgewater when he exited the game for a concussion evaluation.
Bridgewater will progress through concussion protocol this week, although early indications from Sunday were that he passed all parts of the concussion evaluation except reportedly exhibiting ataxia on the way to the locker room. He was prevented from returning because of the ataxia, spotted by one of the unaffiliated neurotrauma consultants at the game.
Dr. David Chao, ProFootballDoc, laid out Bridgewater’s process for a return below:
Thompson, a graduate of Kansas State University, was 19 for 33 passing for 166 yards with no touchdowns and 1 interception against the Jets.
This week, he will hopefully have a healthier Tyreek Hill, who is battling foot and quad issues, and Jaylen Waddle, who has been nursing a groin injury for weeks now.
The Dolphins are 4.5 point underdogs at home against Minnesota and the over/under is 45.5, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
