Top Draft Prospect Abdul Carter Has Stress Reaction In Right Foot

(Update 2/26/2025: Abdul Carter's agent Drew Rosenhaus revealed Carter has a stress reaction in his right foot. They are currently mulling whether Carter will have surgery or conduct his Pro Day as scheduled.) Here is Pro Football Doc initial analysis. More to come at SICScore.com

Penn State pass rusher Abdul Carter’s shoulder injury will keep him from working out at the NFL Combine. Carter suffered a left shoulder injury in the Nittany Lions college football playoff game vs. Boise State. Carter suffered the injury in the 2nd quarter and did not return for the remainder of the half, finishing the game with no recorded stats.

Carter was able to play the following week in the semi-final matchup vs. Notre Dame logging a sack and 5 total tackles. Throughout the game, Carter was visibly favoring his shoulder.

Carter’s agent revealed that Carter will undergo the medical exams at the combine and participate in interviews with teams. He also said that Dr. Dan Cooper, the Dallas Cowboys' team physician has treated Carter and has just been medically cleared to resume training.

Pro Football Doc expects NFL teams to closely evaluate his shoulder but anticipates he will pass his physical. Barring any unexpected issues, his draft stock should remain largely unaffected, and he is still projected to be a top pick in this year's NFL Draft.

Carter is one of the top draft prospects and the highest-rated edge rusher for this year’s NFL Draft. Last season, he led FBS with 24 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, and two forced fumbles. During his tenure at Penn State, Carter showed incredible durability, playing in every game in his three seasons. In total, he played in 42 games, totaling 104 tackles, 23 sacks, and 41 tackles for loss.
