TJ Hockenson Not Expected to be Ready Week 1 Due to ACL Injury

In Week 16 of the 2023 season, Minnesota Vikings tight end TJ Hockenson suffered a dual blow, tearing both his ACL and MCL. Due to the need for his MCL to heal first, Hockenson's ACL surgery was delayed until the end of January, prolonging his recovery process.

According to Pro Football Docs, Hockenson will not be fit for the Vikings' season opener. Recovering from simultaneous ACL and MCL injuries typically extends the rehabilitation period. Even upon his return, it will take several weeks for him to regain full strength and form.

Despite missing the season's final two games, Hockenson was one of the league's premier tight ends, tallying impressive stats with 95 catches (2nd most), 960 receiving yards (4th most), and 5 touchdowns.

As the Vikings head into the 2024 season, uncertainty looms over their quarterback situation. With the departure of veteran Kirk Cousins in free agency, the team acquired Sam Darnold from the 49ers and drafted JJ McCarthy with the 10th overall pick in the NFL draft. Given these variables, expectations are tempered for Hockenson's performance, both for the Vikings and in fantasy football.
