C.J. Stroud exited today’s game after an attempted slide led to contact from the back of his helmet with the turf that prompted an immediate concussion evaluation. He was taken to the sideline, then removed for further testing under the NFL’s concussion protocol. While an official diagnosis has not yet been announced, the nature of the play and the league’s mandated procedures make this a situation Houston will monitor closely, especially given Stroud’s importance to the Texans’ offense.
Stroud does have a documented concussion in his NFL history. On December 10, 2023, he suffered a head injury when his helmet struck the turf after a hit. He was placed in the league’s concussion protocol, missed the remainder of that game, and was sidelined for two weeks before returning. That prior incident, and the fact that he’s been in the concussion protocol before, adds important context to today’s evaluation and increases the likelihood that Houston’s medical staff will take a conservative approach.
With another possible head injury now in play, the Texans will follow the league’s multi-step protocol to determine whether Stroud can return quickly or will need additional recovery time. His progress through symptoms, testing, and practice clearance over the next several days will determine his availability. For now, Stroud’s status remains day-to-day as the team awaits further results.
In Week 10 the Texans will face the Jaguars at NRG Stadium in Houston on Sunday 9 November.
