Texans Injury Report: DaeSean Hamilton Season Likely Over Before It Begins

The new free agent WR for the Houston Texans wide receiver room reportedly collapsed from a injury while running a route today in OTAs today. Hamilton was reportedly carted off after having his right knee tended. The immediate worry for many is an ACL tear. Given his 2021 ACL tear he suffered away from the Denver Broncos facility there are additional potential concerns,

The original ProFootballDoc, Dr. David Chao, believes if this is in fact the knee that suffered the ACL tear, the risk is greater for a patella injury due to the bone or tendon graft used in ACL reconstruction surgery. Taking donor tissue from the patella area can cause weakness leaving an athlete susceptible to this kind of injury. Jerry Rice famously suffered a patella fracture after an early return from ACL tear.

Either way with an ACL or patella injury, this non-contact incident will leave Hamilton missing his second straight season.

Although not a lock to make the Texans roster, Hamilton will be missed as a potential deep threat option. With rookie John Metchie III nursing a ACL tear and likely not ready for the start of the 2022 season, the Texans WR depth will be tested to start the season.
