Texans wide receiver Tank Dell sustained a significant left knee injury during Saturday's matchup against the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium. The injury occurred early in the second half as Dell caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from quarterback C.J. Stroud. While making the spectacular catch in the back of the end zone, Dell collided with teammate Jared Wayne, resulting in a concerning scene on the field.
By limited video in-game we have significant concern for a potential tibial plateau fracture and/or ACL tear as well, and Dell will miss significant time.
Dell remained on the turf for several minutes while trainers assessed him. Eventually, he was stretchered off the field on a medical cart and ruled out for the remainder of the game. Stroud, visibly shaken, needed consolation from teammates as Dell was driven up the tunnel.
Before his exit, Dell was having a standout game, recording six receptions for 98 yards and a touchdown. His injury was one of several for the Texans, including free safety Jimmie Ward, who was also carted off after a foot injury in the first half.
The Texans’ offensive line woes continued with guard Shaq Mason leaving early with a knee injury and backup lineman Blake Fisher exiting later with an undisclosed issue. These setbacks added to an already depleted unit with Juice Scruggs sidelined due to a foot injury.
Dell’s injury couldn’t come at a worse time. The Texans, currently battling for a wildcard spot, have leaned heavily on Dell and Nico Collins as their primary receiving duo. Without Dell, defenses are likely to focus on Collins, which could stifle the Texans' aerial offense.
The next men up would be veteran Robert Woods and second-year wideout John Metchie III. While both have shown flashes, neither offers the dynamic playmaking ability that Dell brings to the table. Additionally, the Texans may need to lean more heavily on their running game.
