Steph Curry Ruled Out from Game 1 with Hamstring Injury, Long-Term Impact a Major Concern

(Update: Curry suffered a Grade 1 left hamstring strain and the Warriors expect Curry to miss at least one week)

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry left Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals after suffering what’s been identified as a hamstring strain. While the immediate concern was his absence from the remainder of the game, the bigger worry is how long he’ll be out.

Recovery Timelines for Hamstring Strains

According to Pro Football Doc, unless the issue was simply a cramp or mild tightness, any hamstring strain typically requires a multi-game absence and could even extend into the next round if Golden State advances. The length of Curry’s absence will depend on the severity of the hamstring strain. If it’s a Grade 1 strain, there’s a chance he could play through it, though limited. A Grade 2 strain would likely sideline him for the entire series, while a Grade 3 strain could keep him out through the NBA Finals.

As @ProFootballDoc put it: “The only way he returns soon is if it was cramping. Any real strain means multiple games or even a full series missed.”

Even if Curry attempts to play through the injury, his impact will be limited. History shows that players have performed through pain in the past, but Curry's mobility, defense, and driving ability would be significantly reduced. He may still be able to hit threes, but defensively, he would become a liability.

As a result, the injury has major implications not just for the Warriors, but for the betting markets and series odds, which will likely shift depending on the severity of Curry’s condition. Expect updates in the coming days, but for now, Golden State’s playoff hopes just got a lot more complicated.

Steph Curry has been ruled OUT for the remainder of Game 1 with a hamstring injury. According to @ProFootballDoc the worry is not this game but how long. Only way he returns soon if it was a cramp/tightness. Any hamstring strain is multi games or series and beyond.
