In Sunday’s NFC East contest against the Giants, Eagles’ starting running back Saquon Barkley exited the game in the late in the third quarter after appearing to sustain a minor groin injury during a carry. He came up limping after a long run and was examined by trainers, but did not return to the game, likely due to the score ensuring an Eagles victory.
Saquon Barkley Injury History
Saquon Barkley has no widely documented history of groin injuries, with searches of public injury logs and medical summaries showing no prior strains or tears in that region. However, he has dealt with several notable lower-body injuries throughout his career, including a Grade 2 high ankle sprain in 2019, a torn right ACL and strained MCL in 2020 that ended his season, and multiple ankle sprains in 2021 and 2023.
The absence of previous groin issues is a positive sign, as it suggests this is an isolated incident rather than a recurring soft-tissue problem, but given Barkley’s history of significant leg injuries, the Eagles’ medical staff will likely take a cautious approach to his recovery and workload management.
When will Saquon Barkley Return?
For now, it may have been a precautionary absence, the Eagles have a Week 9 bye therefore he may not missing any time at all. In Week 10 on Monday Night Football, the Eagles face the Packers in Green Bay, therefore Barkley and the Eagles will be focusing on being healthy for that critical clash.
