Detroit Pistons star Cade Cunningham has been diagnosed with a collapsed lung and is expected to miss at least the next two weeks, according to the team.

According to Dr. David Chao, also known as Pro Football Doc, Cunningham likely suffered a spontaneous lung bleb rupture without trauma. Chao said the condition is more common in young, tall males and smokers, typically resolves on its own within two to four weeks, and rarely requires surgery or another procedure.

Detroit entered Thursday with the best record in the Eastern Conference, making Cunningham’s status a major storyline as the postseason approaches.

Cunningham has been one of the NBA’s top all-around performers this season, averaging 24.5 points and 9.9 assists per game. His assist average ranks second in the league.

He has appeared in 61 games this season, leaving him just short of the 65-game threshold required for eligibility for the NBA’s regular-season awards.
