The Philadelphia Eagles have battled their way to the Super Bowl, but one major injury concern could significantly impact their offensive line. Starting left guard Landon Dickerson, a key piece in the Eagles' dominant trenches, is dealing with a left knee injury that could sideline him for the biggest game of the season.
Dickerson has been no stranger to knee injuries throughout his career, having suffered ACL tears in both knees during his time at Alabama. While he has shown resilience and toughness in bouncing back from those setbacks, his latest issue is particularly concerning.
During the NFC Championship Game, Dickerson’s left knee became a clear problem. He was seen limping as early as the second quarter and had to briefly exit the game. When he returned, he was sporting a brace and was visibly favoring the knee, raising concerns over its stability. His performance took a noticeable hit, as he struggled to hold his ground against A-gap blitzes and even drew a crucial holding penalty due to limited lateral movement.
According to Pro Football Doc, Dr. David Chao, the signs point to a possible ACL or meniscus injury, which could ultimately rule him out for the Super Bowl. The medical evaluation suggests that his knee was severely hampered, making him a high-risk player if he attempts to play through the injury.
The Eagles have built their success on a dominant offensive line, and Dickerson has been a critical part of their interior protection. His ability to anchor the left side, particularly in run blocking, has helped fuel Philadelphia’s top-tier rushing attack led by Jalen Hurts and their stable of running backs.
If Dickerson is unavailable, the Eagles will likely have to turn to their depth, which could be a major disadvantage against a defensive front like Kansas City's. The Chiefs’ interior pass rush, led by Chris Jones, will look to exploit any weakness in the Eagles' protection, and a compromised or absent Dickerson could open up significant vulnerabilities.
So far, Dickerson has not participated in practice this week, further fueling doubts about his availability. The Eagles have remained non-committal about his status, but the lack of on-field reps suggests that his knee remains a serious concern. If he cannot go, the Eagles will need to adjust their game plan accordingly to protect Jalen Hurts and maintain their offensive efficiency.
Given the visible struggles in the NFC Championship Game and his history of knee injuries, the outlook for Dickerson is not promising. Dr. Chao and the SIC team lean toward him being unavailable for the Super Bowl, which would be a huge loss for Philadelphia. Even if he attempts to play, his effectiveness would likely be severely limited, putting the Eagles at a significant disadvantage in the trenches.
As Super Bowl week unfolds, all eyes will be on the Eagles’ injury report. But as of now, Dickerson remains the team’s biggest injury concern heading into the biggest game of the year.
