The Pelicans announced on Tuesday afternoon that second-round rookie E.J. Liddell suffered a torn right ACL and will be out indefinitely.
The 21-year-old forward suffered the knee injury in an NBA Summer League game Monday against the Hawks.
Liddell's knee bent awkwardly while attempting to post up in the third quarter against the Hawks.
He was then helped off the floor by the several players and could not put weight on his right leg.
Our panel of Pro Basketball Docs had immediate concern for a significant knee injury, specifically a patella tendon rupture.
While our Pro Basketball Docs hope to be wrong about Liddell's injury it appears he will be out for an extended stretch.
Liddell averaged 19.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.6 blocks over 33.2 minutes per game at Ohio State last season.
The Pelicans drafted him 41st overall, but have yet to sign him to a contract.
