New England Patriots rookie left tackle Will Campbell left the game in the third quarter after suffering a knee injury during a run by TreVeyon Henderson. Campbell originally got up and walked off on his own, but was subsequently carted to the locker room for further evaluation. Initial reports indicate a right medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury, with the expectation that he will miss multiple weeks as he recovers.
Campbell, the Patriots’ fourth-overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, emerged from LSU Tigers with the anticipation of becoming the blind-side tackle anchor. This season, he has been a consistent presence on the offensive line, starting virtually every snap. His participation rate was reportedly around 98.3% before his injury. The Patriots’ offensive line stability is significantly impacted by Campbell’s absence, especially considering the team’s heavy reliance on him to protect quarterback Drake Maye’s blind side.
While we do not know the severity of the injury at this time, by video, Pro Football Doc - Dr David Chao believes it is a High Grade MCL, meaning a multi week absence and a short IR stint is likely.
Recovery timelines for a right MCL injury vary widely. Mild sprains often require 2–4 weeks, while more significant tears can take 6–8 weeks or longer. With Campbell potentially missing multiple weeks, the injury is clearly more than day-to-day but does not currently appear season-ending, and the Patriots’ medical staff will monitor his progress closely.
