New England Patriots linebacker Robert Spillane is working to return from an ankle injury suffered during the Divisional Round against the Denver Broncos, with his status for Super Bowl LX still uncertain.
Spillane was listed as questionable to return after injuring his ankle against Denver, but did not re-enter the game. He was then listed as a did-not-participate in practice throughout last week as the Patriots managed his recovery.
Speaking to our Sports Injury Central reporters on Monday, Spillane remained optimistic about his progress.
“Yeah, we’re looking to get better each and every day,” Spillane said. “We’re looking to get back out there, and we’re just going to continue to trust.”
Spillane was a key piece of New England’s defense during the regular season, leading the team with 97 total tackles. He also recorded one sack and two interceptions, emerging as one of the Patriots’ most reliable defensive contributors.
The Patriots will continue to monitor Spillane’s availability as they prepare for Sunday, with his practice participation later in the week expected to provide greater clarity on his status.
UPDATE
On Wednesday Spillane was listed as did not participate in practice but Pro Football Doc expects Spillane to give it a go on Sunday.
