Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is expected to start Monday night against the Denver Broncos as he completes his return from a significant left knee injury.
Mahomes underwent surgery in December to repair a torn ACL and LCL. He was cleared for all football activities in July and has not missed a practice since the start of training camp, although the Chiefs held him out of the entire preseason.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said he expects Mahomes to be under center for Kansas City's season opener.
“Most likely, he'll be the guy out there,” Reid said. “Other than having a brace on his leg, everything looks normal. He's running around the same way he's always done. I think he'll be fine there.”
Mahomes' ability to participate throughout training camp without missing a practice has been an encouraging sign as he works his way back from surgery.

Despite Mahomes being on track to start Week 1, Pro Football Doc cautioned that being cleared to play does not necessarily mean the quarterback has completely returned to his pre-injury form.
“Playing does not equal 100%,” Pro Football Doc said. “Great recovery!”
Mahomes is expected to wear a brace on his left knee when the Chiefs open the season against the Broncos on Monday night.
