Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love underwent surgery on his left thumb on Tuesday. Still, the expectation is he will be ready to go for Week 1 of the regular season, according to Dr. David Chao, Pro Football Doc.
Love injured the thumb during his final play in a preseason game and had surgery Tuesday to repair a ligament tear. He was seen practicing Monday with heavy tape on the thumb. Although he will miss practice time moving forward after the surgery, the outlook is favorable, according to Pro Football Doc Dr. David Chao, who noted the injury is much less limiting than similar ligament tears on a quarterback’s throwing hand.
“It’s his non-throwing hand, so even with surgery, the outlook is very good,” Pro Football Doc said. “He’ll miss practice time, but I don’t expect him to miss any games. He should be ready well ahead of Week 1.”
In 2019, Drew Brees sustained an ulnar collateral ligament tear in his right thumb, underwent surgery, and returned after missing five games. Love’s injury, Chao said, should be easier to manage, especially with a month until Week 1. While Love is expected to miss some practice time during recovery, he is not projected to miss any regular-season games.
