Packers quarterback Jordan Love exited Saturday night’s NFC North game against the Chicago Bears in the second quarter after sustaining a concussion on a hard helmet-to-helmet hit and did not return to the contest.

Love absorbed the blow while attempting to evade pressure from Bears defensive end Austin Booker on a passing play. Video and reports show Love taking the hit directly to the head, with Booker later flagged for roughing the passer on the play. After being tended to on the field, Love walked to the sideline medical tent and then into the locker room for further evaluation.

While tonight’s concussion appears to be Jordan Love’s first officially documented concussion in the NFL, there are a few relevant health notes from his past. Earlier this season, in Week 10, he was evaluated for a possible concussion after a hit but was ultimately diagnosed with a left shoulder injury and returned to finish the game. Beyond that evaluation, Love has not had a reported concussion at the professional level, making tonight’s injury his first confirmed concussion diagnosis in the NFL.

Losing Love in late December is a major blow for the Packers as they continue their push for an NFC playoff spot — especially with a tough matchup against the Ravens looming on December 27th. The team now must balance player safety with competitive urgency as they monitor Love’s recovery and update his availability in the days ahead.
