The Oregon State Beavers face off versus the seventh-ranked USC Trojans in a massive game to decide who’s the best team in the Pac-12. But, injuries to a Beavers key pass catcher could hurt their ability to score enough points to beat the high-powered USC offensive attack.
Luke Musgrave is one of the nation’s best tight ends (TE), averaging 15.4 yards per reception. But, during the last drive of the team’s game against Fresno State, Musgrave suffered an injury. The 6-foot-6, 249-pounder was trying to make a crucial late-game catch to put the Beavers in a position to win. The catch helped them get in position to win the game, but Musgrave’s leg was on the short end. He didn’t return to the game, and his head coach doesn’t expect him to play. “Luke (Musgrave) will be out a little longer,” Smith said to the Media. “It’s not season-ending, but not anytime soon.”
The best quarterback-to-receiver duo in the nation has been Caleb Williams to Jordan Addison. Head coach Lincoln Riley got two transfers in his first off-season with the team. They have helped captain one of the best offenses through the first three weeks. Riley hasn’t had time to develop his defensive talent. The team allowed 28 points to Stanford(1-1) in their matchup this season.
The number one recruit in the 2022 class for USC is Domani Jackson, a five-star cornerback from Santa Ana, California. He’s listed as questionable this week after suffering a knee injury in training camp. He has missed the team’s first three games. His head coach described his injury status as being “close.” He followed up with, “He might be ready this week,” Riley said. “We’ll see if he can do anything in the next few days, but not quite ready yet.” The Trojans could use a highly talented defensive back like Jackson to help bolster their secondary. So, we will see if he can go close to gameday.
Starting defensive tackle De’jon Benton has been listed as questionable for the team’s matchup against Oklahoma State. At last week’s game, he had a cast over his left forearm and hand. He didn’t practice this Tuesday and is unlikely to be 100% this week. “He(Benton) bounced back quick,” said Riley to the LA Times. “Another guy that we’re hopeful can do something for us this week.”
The Trojans are 5.5-point favorites and the over/under is 70.5 points, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
USC is +1200 to win the National Championship and +135 to win the Pac-12. Oregon State is +1700 to win the Pac-12.
