In the upcoming Big Ten matchup between No. 3 Ohio State and No. 7 Penn State, the undefeated Buckeyes are dealing with several injuries to key players. Denzel Burke, the team's cornerback, sustained an injury in last week's game against Purdue, and star wide receiver Emeka Egbuka was unavailable for the matchup.
Running backs TreVeyon Henderson and Miyan Williams were absent during the Purdue game, and Chip Trayanum left the game prematurely.
Emeka Egbuka has recorded 22 receptions for 303 yards and three touchdowns in five games, with four carries for 21 yards. TreVeyon Henderson has rushed for 295 yards on 44 carries, accompanied by five touchdowns, while Miyan Williams has 25 rushing attempts, accumulating 96 yards and scoring twice.
"I'm not gonna get into all those guys, but hopeful that we'll have all those guys back for Saturday," Ohio State coach Ryan Day said to the media.
Ohio State's offense has accumulated 78 points in its last two outings without their star players. Also, Ohio State's first-year quarterback Kyle McCord hasn't thrown an interception since opening day.
In the upcoming matchup against Ohio State, the undefeated Nittany Lions aim to secure their first victory in Columbus since 2011. Head coach James Franklin" faces a challenging task with a 1-8 record against Ohio State during his tenure.
Most of Penn State's encounters with Ohio State have been decided by 13 points or fewer. The Nittany Lions may find an advantage in their few injuries compared to Ohio State's extensive list of critical player injuries.
One of Penn State's star wide receivers, Harrison Wallace, has battled an injury throughout the season. In the Nittany Lions' last game against UMass, he saw limited playing time, having only participated in three of six games this season. Although he reaggravated his injury once this year, there are signs of his improving health.
Starting offensive lineman JB Nelson had to be carted off the field three weeks ago during the Northwestern game, but Coach James Franklin confirmed that the injury was not season-ending.
Running back Kaytron Allen also returned to the lineup after sustaining an injury in the Northwestern game three weeks prior. Reports indicate that he has been actively participating in practice throughout the week leading up to the Ohio State game.
