Ohio State left tackle Josh Simmons remains one of the top offensive line prospects in the upcoming NFL Draft despite suffering a left patellar tendon rupture in October. Simmons has been vocal about his recovery, stating he is "way ahead of schedule," but our Pro Docs remain cautious.
Dr. David Chao, Pro Football Doc, believes Simmons will not be ready for his Pro Day in April, questioning the need to rush back before reaching full strength. “I don’t see pro day happening. It doesn’t take him off the draft board as long as you can project him. Why show that you are not 100% at Pro Day. Go by game film.”
An isolated patellar tendon rupture is considered a more difficult recovery than an isolated ACL tear, as it takes longer to regain full strength and explosiveness. However, Simmons could be ready for training camp, with his position at left tackle potentially aiding his return. As a left tackle his right leg, the power leg in that stance, remains unaffected.
Despite the injury, Simmons’ draft stock remains strong. NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that his medical reviews at the combine have been "very positive," signaling that teams still view him as a valuable prospect.
