Update: The Texans confirmed Collins suffered a concussion
Houston Texans wide receiver Nico Collins left the team’s game in the fourth quarter after slamming his head on the ground. Collins was carted to the locker room for a concussion check.
Collins remained on the turf following the play and required assistance to get to his feet. After a brief evaluation in the sideline medical tent, he was helped onto a cart to leave the field. A towel was draped over his head as he was taken off, a scene that underscored the seriousness of the situation.
The injury is particularly concerning given Collins’ recent history. He missed Week 8 earlier this season after suffering a concussion in Week 7, making this potential head injury his second of the year.
According to Dr. David Chao, Pro Football Doc, a second concussion in the same season significantly complicates Collins’ outlook. Chao noted that if the Texans advance, Collins' playing next week would be unlikely given standard concussion protocols and the added caution typically taken after repeat head injuries.
