Pro Football Doc Dr. David Chao and the SICscore medical team reviewed several key injuries from Week 5, including updates on Omarion Hampton, Kyler Murray, and Landon Dickerson. Here’s what the video analysis reveals.
Omarion Hampton – Left Ankle
Chargers running back Omarion Hampton left Sunday’s game after appearing to tweak his left ankle on a play where he didn’t even have the ball.
“We didn’t see anything at first at all,” said Dr. Chao. “The closest thing we found was a play where he was out in the flat and kind of got kicked in the left ankle, tripped and kicked, and then he left after that.”
Hampton was placed on IR on Monday, signifying he will miss at least the next four weeks.
Kyler Murray – Foot / Facemask Incident
Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray took a snap directly off his facemask but did not undergo a concussion evaluation.
“There’s no question that he got hit in the facemask and helmet with the football from a snap,” Dr. Chao explained. “You can’t get a concussion from that. That was not a locker room concussion check.”
Instead, Murray was briefly evaluated for an unknown foot issue, though video review offered few clues.
“We went back about 12 plays, did not see anything on Kyler Murray’s foot,” said Chao. “He came back into the game… I don’t see anything right now.”
The team later confirmed Murray returned and finished the game, suggesting no significant injury.
Landon Dickerson – High Ankle / Knee Variant
Eagles guard Landon Dickerson exited Sunday’s loss to Denver with what appears to be a high ankle sprain with possible knee involvement.
“Landon Dickerson is big for the Eagles’ offensive line,” said Chao. “He rolled up on the left ankle — high ankle slash knee variant — that classic type of injury where we said it would be hard for him to play.”
Dickerson remained on the sideline before being ruled out, and his absence clearly impacted the Eagles’ offense.
“He stayed on the sideline for a while, then was ruled out. The Eagles didn’t really score points afterward,” Chao noted.
Given the short turnaround for Philadelphia’s upcoming game, Dickerson’s availability is uncertain, and missing time is a strong possibility.
J.J. McCarthy – Ankle (Expected Return Week 7)
Vikings rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy is nearing a return from an ankle injury, and Pro Football Doc expects him back after the team’s Week 6 bye.
“I think J.J. McCarthy will be able to come back Week 7,” said Dr. Chao. “We mentioned from the get-go, hiding behind health — smart move by the Vikings and Kevin O’Connell. J.J., you’re not benched, but you’re not 100%. Take your time.”
With the bye week providing extra rest, McCarthy is expected to be healthy enough to compete for the starting job when Minnesota returns to action.
“I don’t think he’s getting benched,” Chao added. “I think they may hide behind health some more at most.”
Brock Bowers – Bone Bruise (Multi-Week)
Raiders tight end Brock Bowers is expected to miss multiple weeks with a bone bruise, according to Pro Football Doc. The team will also be without backup Michael Mayer, who remains in concussion protocol.
“Brock Bowers is likely multi-week,” Dr. Chao said. “You cannot rush a bone bruise back, and you cannot risk his long-term career trying to play through this.”
The Raiders will have to adjust offensively as both tight ends remain sidelined, leaving a major void in the passing game.
“That’s big news for the Raiders that they’ll have to cope with,” Chao added.
