The Detroit Lions are set to face the Chicago Bears in a Week 16 matchup on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Soldier Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM ET.
Team Records and Standings
The Lions have been dominant this season, boasting a 12-2 record, leading the NFC North, and securing a playoff berth. Their high-powered offense has accumulated 459 points, while the defense has allowed 282 points, resulting in a robust +177 point differential.
In contrast, the Bears have struggled, holding a 4-10 record and sitting at the bottom of the NFC North. They have scored 266 points and conceded 308, leading to a -42 point differential.
Despite their impressive record, the Lions' recent injuries could impact their performance. These setbacks might make the game more competitive than anticipated.
The Bears, aiming to break a losing streak, will look to capitalize on the Lions' vulnerabilities. However, Chicago's own injury challenges, particularly on the offensive line, could hinder their efforts against Detroit's formidable defense.
The Lions are dealing with several significant injuries including these from Week 15:
David Montgomery (RB): Montgomery suffered a torn MCL in his right knee. Initially expected to undergo season-ending surgery, recent reports suggest he may return for the playoffs. He has not been placed on injured reserve, indicating a possibility of postseason participation.
Graham Glasgow (G): LP Friday after DNP earlier in the week, game status questionable.
Alim McNeill (DL): McNeill is dealing with a concussion but has been a full participant in recent practices, indicating a potential return for the upcoming game.
Carlton Davis (CB): Davis suffered a fractured jaw in Sunday's game and is out 6 weeks if the Lions make a deep playoff run, he could come back.
Brian Branch (DB): LP Thursday and Friday with a calf injury, game status questionable.
Ifeatu Melifonwu (S): FP Friday with a hand injury, game status questionable.
The Bears' injury concerns include:
Braxton Jones (LT): Jones is in concussion protocol, he was a FP on Friday but has been ruled out for Sunday.
Teven Jenkins (LG): Jenkins was a FP on Friday, he is questionable for Sunday but should be able to play after dealing with an ankle injury and also a calf injury.
Ryan Bates (OT): Bates is in concussion protocol and has not participated in recent practices, ruled out for Sunday.
Gervon Dexter Sr. (DT): Dexter is nursing a knee injury and has been limited in practice sessions, casting uncertainty over his participation.
Note: Injury statuses are subject to change.
