As we look towards Week 13 of the NFL season, several teams are struggling with key injuries that may impact upcoming games. At SICscore.com, we provide expert insights from Dr. David Chao, MD (@ProFootballDoc) and other top sports doctors to help fans and analysts understand the impact of these injuries on the player and team.
Everyone, including the 49ers, was surprised ahead of W12 when Brock Purdy didn’t play despite having a right shoulder injury, we analyzed the Week 11 film and identified three potential plays involving Purdy, however, we didn’t observe any significant structural shoulder damage, in fact, he’s undergone two MRIs that were all clear, the issue is function, he’s headed in the right direction and we hope he’ll be able to play in W13 against the Buffalo Bills
Sustained a left AC joint sprain separated shoulder in his non-throwing shoulder, he could have played through with injection already, but was shelved by Jacksonville, he's finally healthy enough to play without an injection, we don't think he needs surgery and expect him to play if the Jaguars will let him because of his long term contract, they want to protect him, we expect him to be good to go in week 13.
Will undergo further evaluation on his forearm and is not traveling with the team, significantly lowering his chances to play on Thursday, Drew Lock will likely start Thanksgiving day.
Has no injury designation heading into W13 against the Titans, he had previously been dealing with an ankle injury and could see his regular workload this weekend.
Sustained a concussion during W12 late in the game, his second concussion of the season and is currently in the concussion protocol, so far hasn't practiced this week and ruled out for Week 13.
Sustained a sprained MCL this past week, by video we didn't see anything major, but this is the same knee he's torn an ACL on before, he is expected to miss Week 13 and will be week-to-week after.
Was a DNP on Monday after sustaining an AC joint injury on Sunday during Week 12, the Lions play on Thanksgiving and if Montgomery doesn't log a practice Tuesday or Wednesday he might be unable to go, he will continue to be monitored, but the Lions have a more than capable backup in Jahmyr Gibbs.
It seems dubious that he’ll be available for Week 13, he's a speedster with a hamstring injury, not a great combination, if he does play he could be more of a decoy, with their top record the Eagles may be positioning for playoffs so it seems like they'll be cautious with their speedster, and play without Devonta Smith for one more week.
Listed as questionable with a wrist injury for W13 against the 49ers, he's been limited at practice and if he does play there is a chance he could be on a snap count
Was listed as a full participant in Thursday's injury report with an Achilles injury he had been working through, he hasn't missed any time with the injury and this shouldn't affect his productivity.
Is still dealing with the wrist injury that has he has been managing for the last few games, he's been playing through it but it has impacted his productivity, he hasn't caught for more than 80yds since Week 1 and has only scored three touchdowns so far this season.
Has been ruled out of W13 with the shoulder injury he sustained in W12 when he was slammed down on the ground directly on his shoulder while getting tackled, he likely sustained an injury to his right AC joint
Suffered a likely concussion when his head hit the ground on a dropped pass in Q3, ruled out and will miss Week 13 on Thanksgiving against Miami Dolphins given limited number of days to progress out of the concussion protocol.
Has been ruled out of W13 with the knee injury that saw him miss W11, even with the bye week rest he's still not ready to come back to the lineup and will miss this Sunday's matchup vs the 49ers.
