NFL Preseason Injury Report: Key Players Sidelined

The first week of the NFL preseason brought its share of injuries. Here is a summary of our analysis on the key players who were injured during preseason week 1 games and recent practice.

Key Injuries from NFL Preseason Week 1 and Practice

Drew Lock, QB, Giants: Lock suffered a hip pointer and strained oblique during the Giants' preseason opener. He is expected to miss some time, leaving Daniel Jones and Tommy DeVito as the only healthy quarterbacks on the roster.

MarShawn Lloyd, RB, Packers: Lloyd, a rookie, sustained a hamstring injury during the third quarter of the Packers' game. As a third-round pick, his absence could affect Green Bay's running back depth.

Jahmyr Gibbs, RB, Lions: Exited practice on Monday August 12th sparking concerns given his history with hamstring injuries and his playing style, a speedy back of his caliber can be hampered greatly by a soft tissue of this kind and there is concern this would cause him to potentially miss Week 1 or if he plays be ineffective, last season Gibbs missed two games in the middle of the season with a hamstring injury, expect him to sit out the rest of the preseason as a precaution since he is expected to be a big part of the Lions run attack off the heels of a very strong rookie campaign running for 945 yards

Malik Nabers, WR, Giants: Malik Nabers left practice on Sunday, August 11th, with a minor sprain to his left ankle. It is not believed to be serious at this time and is unlikely to impact his availability for the start of the regular season. The first-round draft pick has been a standout at camp and is already considered an early-season candidate for Offensive Rookie of the Year based on his performance. Expectations for him remain very high but we will continue to monitor his recovery progress heading into season.

Marquise Brown, WR, Chiefs:

Suffered a SC joint dislocation on August 10th in a preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars and was hospitalized as a precaution, SC joint dislocation can be very dangerous (esp if displaced posteriorly, towards critical blood vessels), this was a similar injury that Tyreek Hill suffered last season that caused him to miss four weeks, a similar timeline would see Brown pushing to be available for Week 1 but we believe there's a chance he starts the year on PUP, Week 1 is likely in doubt but more concern for a longer absence.

David Bell, WR, Browns: Bell exited the Browns' game against the Packers with a quadriceps injury. His availability moving forward will be key as he competes for playing time in a crowded receiving group.

Troy Fautanu, OT, Steelers: Fautanu, the Steelers' first-round pick, left the game with a minor MCL sprain. The injury is not considered serious, and the team hopes for a quick recovery.

Bralen Trice, LB, Falcons: Trice's season is in jeopardy after tearing his ACL during the Falcons' preseason game. The third-round draft pick has been placed on Injured Reserve (IR), marking a significant loss for Atlanta's defense.

Nate Wiggins, CB, Ravens: Wiggins left the Ravens' preseason game with a minor shoulder sprain. Despite the injury, the Ravens remain optimistic that Wiggins will be ready for Week 1 of the regular season.

Ambry Thomas, CB, 49ers:  Thomas sustained a broken forearm in the preseason debut on August 10th. This injury typically has a 6-8 week recovery time. Sometimes sooner for defenders, but an official timeline has not been set. He will likely start the season on the PUP list as a result of this injury.
