Injury updates from Pro Football Doc on several NFL stars dealing with preseason setbacks.

Landon Dickerson Injury Update

The Eagles guard is currently listed with a “meniscus injury.” While no one has confirmed whether it’s a meniscectomy (trim) or a full repair, Pro Football Doc notes the injury is being implied as minor, which often suggests a trim.

“A trim generally means a faster return,” he said, “while a true repair can take much longer — as in the case of J.J. McCarthy, who missed all of last season.”

Dickerson has said he could be back for Week 1, but the timeline will depend on whether this is truly a trim or something more involved. “Until I fully hear it’s a meniscectomy, we’ll see,” Pro Football Doc said. “Is that coach speak, or is that real?”

Matthew Stafford Injury Update

The Rams quarterback missed his scheduled practice Monday. Stafford is managing a disc issue, and Pro Football Doc advises caution given the unpredictable nature of disc and nerve problems.

“Why push Matthew Stafford if he has a disc issue?” he said. “If he’s able to suit up in Week 1, that’s good news.”

The veteran remains a reasonable candidate to play, though the uncertainty lingers. “When you’re talking about a disc and nerve issue, you don’t know which way it’s going to go,” he said.

Anthony Richardson Injury Update

The Colts quarterback is dealing with a pinky finger injury on his throwing hand. Pro Football Doc says the injury is not a major concern.

“Even though you see a finger completely crooked, most times it’s not a break, it’s a dislocation,” he said. “You don’t really need your pinky finger to grip and throw the ball.”

Pro Football Doc also says Richardson’s injury is considered less significant than Justin Fields’ toe injury, and he is expected to be available. “It’s not a big deal,” he said. “I’d argue it’s even less of a big deal than Fields’ toe injury.”

Tyjae Spears Injury Update

The Titans running back suffered a high ankle sprain but Pro Football Doc is not ruling him out for Week 1.

“Yes, it’s a high ankle,” Pro Football Doc said, “but there are different degrees of high ankles. Let’s not panic yet on Tyjae Spears.”

The team is not expected to seek an RB1 replacement. “I don’t think the Titans need to look for a new RB1,” he added.

Brandon Aiyuk Injury Update

The 49ers receiver is “on track” for a Week 6 return, according to 49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan, but that still leaves him out for the early part of the season.

“It’s very telling,” Pro Football Doc said. “Week 6 is better than Week 8 or Week 10, but it’s still not Week 1.”

He cautioned that Aiyuk’s full return to 100% is not guaranteed by then. “He’s going to have to ramp his way up,” he said. “It’s not a guarantee yet.”
