The Washington Commanders are set to face the Detroit Lions in the NFL Divisional Round on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 8:00 PM ET at Ford Field in Detroit.
The Detroit Lions secured the NFC's top seed with an impressive 15-2 regular-season record. Their offense, led by quarterback Jared Goff, amassed 4,629 passing yards, 37 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. Running backs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery contributed significantly, with Gibbs rushing for 1,412 yards.
The Washington Commanders finished the regular season at 12-5 and are riding a six-game winning streak, including a 23-20 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card round. Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels has been pivotal, completing 69% of his passes for 3,568 yards, 25 touchdowns, and nine interceptions, along with 891 rushing yards and six touchdowns.
LB Bobby Wagner (ankle): After missing practices earlier in the week, head coach Dan Quinn confirmed Wagner is expected to play against the Lions.
LB Jordan Magee (hamstring): Did not participate in recent practices; will miss Saturday's game with the hamstring injury he reaggravated in the Wild Card win over the Buccanneers.
K Zane Gonzalez (hip): Limited in practice on Tuesday but was an FP on Wednesday and Thursday, will be available for the game.
RB David Montgomery (knee): Returned to full practice participation this week after missing three games with an MCL injury; expected to play.
CB Terrion Arnold (foot): Participated fully in practice; will be available for Saturday after being carted to the locker room in Week 18 against the Vikings.
RG Kevin Zeitler (hamstring): Missed consecutive practices; has been listed as out for Saturday after suffering a right hamstring injury on the final possession of the Week 18 game against the Vikings.
The Lions' high-powered offense will challenge the Commanders' defense, which has shown resilience under the leadership of veteran linebacker Bobby Wagner. Washington's offense, with the dual-threat capability of Jayden Daniels, aims to exploit any defensive lapses by Detroit. Analysts anticipate a high-scoring game, given both teams' offensive strengths with the consensus game total set at 55.5 points.
As both teams prepare, the matchup promises to be a thrilling contest with a spot in the NFC Championship on the line.
