The stage is set for a thrilling NFC Championship showdown on Sunday, January 26, 2025, as the Washington Commanders face off against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. This marks the third meeting between these NFC East rivals this season, with each team securing a victory in the regular season.
The Philadelphia Eagles concluded the regular season with an impressive 14-3 record, clinching the NFC East title and securing the No. 2 seed in the playoffs. Their postseason journey included a hard-fought 28-22 victory over the Los Angeles Rams in the Divisional Round.
The Washington Commanders, under the leadership of rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, finished the regular season at 11-6, earning the No. 6 seed. They have been the surprise package of the playoffs, edging out the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 23-20 in the Wild Card round and then stunning the top-seeded Detroit Lions with a 45-31 win in the Divisional Round.
Out:
G Sam Cosmi (Knee) – Suffered a torn ACL in the Divisional Round; will miss the remainder of the playoffs. Cosmi's absence is significant, as he suffered a torn ACL in the win over the Lions, leaving a void on the offensive line.
Questionable:
DT Daron Payne (Knee/Finger) – Did not practice this week.
DE Javontae Jean-Baptiste (Shoulder) – Limited participation in practice.
QB Jeff Driskel (Illness) – Did not practice.
Expected to Play:
LB Bobby Wagner (Ankle) – Limited participation in practice; no game status designation.
LB Frankie Luvu (Shoulder) – Limited participation; expected to play.
Out:
WR Britain Covey (Neck)
DT Byron Young (Hamstring)
Questionable:
C Cam Jurgens (Back) – Limited participation in practice.
Expected to Play:
QB Jalen Hurts (Knee) – Full participant in practice; plans to wear a knee brace during the game.
TE Dallas Goedert (Ankle) – Full participant; declared himself "good to go."
CB Quinyon Mitchell (Shoulder) – Full participant; expected to play.
This game marks the first NFC Championship appearance for the Commanders since 1991, while the Eagles are making their ninth appearance, having won their last two in 2017 and 2022. A victory for the Commanders would make Jayden Daniels the first rookie quarterback in NFL history to start in a Super Bowl.
A focal point of this matchup will be how the Commanders' defense handles Eagles' running back Saquon Barkley and the dual-threat capabilities of Jalen Hurts. Barkley has amassed over 2,000 rushing yards this season.
