The last series of the NBA Western Conference Semifinals is set and has a great chance to be just as competitive as other series out West. The Minnesota Timberwolves feature maybe the most exciting young superstar in the league in Anthony Edwards vs the Golden State Warriors and the living legend that is Steph Curry and the resurgence of Jimmy Butler. Minnesota doesn’t have many concerns injury wise at the moment, but that’s not the case with Golden State.
The Golden State Warriors just completed a very physical, chippy and intense 7 game series vs the Houston Rockets. Going into the series, Steph Curry’s right thumb was a topic of concern and it was an issue a few times in the series, with Houston targeting the thumb on defense with extra contact at times and it is reflecting in his shooting. He score 3pts in the first half of Game 7 and it looked like the thumb was a major issue, but then finished the game scoring 22pts on 8-16 shooting. In the end, though, for all the concern there was about the thumb, he finished shooting 39% from 3 on 74 attempts. Since it is a thumb on his shooting hand, this will be a concern regardless and worth keeping an eye on.
The Minnesota Timberwolves were the healthiest team in the Western Conference, with no regular rotation player having missed more than 20 games. They came out of this series with no injury concerns after a 5 game series vs the Lakers. Anthony Edwards was dominant in the first series vs the Lakers to the tune of 26.8pts/8.4reb/6.2ast and though he has no injury concerns, he should still be the one to keep an eye on for the Timberwolves in this series.
The Warriors will rely heavily on the leadership and shot-making of Steph Curry, even as concerns linger about his shooting hand, while the Timberwolves look to ride the momentum of their young star, Anthony Edwards, and their overall team health. If Edwards continues his breakout postseason and Golden State can't fully mask its injury vulnerabilities, Minnesota could very well take the upper hand.
