The NBA season is a marathon, not a sprint—and every week brings new twists in the ongoing battle between talent and durability. From nagging soreness to major setbacks, injuries shape rotations, influence playoff hopes, and redefine team dynamics across the league. Each week, Sports Injury Central breaks down the latest updates, timelines, and recovery outlooks for players around the association, providing expert insight into how health trends could impact both the short-term box scores and the long-term championship picture.
Halloween Update
Trae Young - Atlanta Hawks
Young suffered a right knee sprain in Thursday's game against the Nets. It is uncertain how much time he may miss as a result of the injury, with the team waiting for the results of an MRI, he has been ruled out for Friday's matchup vs the Pacers.
Anthony Davis - Dallas Mavericks
Davis exited the game on Wednesday in the first half with what was listed as lower leg soreness and did not return. It hasn't been reported how serious this injury is but there are reports that he came into the game with bilateral Achilles tendinitis. He is not expected to play on Saturday vs Detroit.
Giannis Antetokounmpo - Milwaukee Bucks
Giannis was initially ruled as probable for a Thursday matchup vs Warriors, but was ruled out before tipoff with a knee injury. His next chance to play will be Saturday vs Sacramento. Considering he almost played on Thursday and will have a day off in between games vs Golden State and Sacramento, it's reasonable to expect he will play this weekend.
Dillon Brooks - Phoenix Suns
Dillon Brooks has missed three games with a groin injury, and will continue to miss time on Friday vs the Jazz and likely going into the weekend.
Luka Doncic - Los Angeles Lakers
Luka Doncic sustained a left finger sprain as well as a lower leg contusion and will be re-evaluated in one week. This leaves Austin Reaves with the bulk of the ball handling duties for the Lakers and so far in his first game without both Luka and LeBron, Reaves scored a career-high 51 points so look for him to have a big impact during Luka’s absence.
Anthony Edwards - Minnesota Timberwolves
Exited Sunday’s game with hamstring tightness in the first quarter and did not return. Being ruled out so quickly and sitting most of the game is a troubling sign, especially with a hamstring injury for an explosive player like Edwards. According to reports, Edwards will miss at least the next two weeks.
Caris LeVert - Detroit Pistons
He’s missed two games with a hamstring injury while the Pistons have been taking a cautious approach with the young forward, sitting him for two straight games. The Pistons have three games this week, October 27th vs Cavaliers, October 29th vs Magic and November 1st vs Mavericks. It’s unlikely he plays in all three games, but he could make a return this week.
Marcus Smart - Los Angeles Lakers
The Lakers are already chockfull of injuries to their backcourt before Sunday, but during Sunday’s game Marcus Smart exited in the fourth quarter with a right leg injury and did not return. He had been playing well up to that point with 11 points and 5 assists as well as some off-stat book plays that kept the Lakers in a tight game vs the Kings. If he misses time, expect Jake LaRavia to see an uptick in minutes.
Bradley Beal - Los Angeles Clippers
Missed his first game of the season with lower back soreness. Beal was already under a cautious approach from the Clippers due to his various injury history and was on a minutes restriction, expect this new back injury to add a new wrinkle to his maintenance plan.
