Most and Least Injured NFL Teams in 2024: Key Insights and 2025 Projections

The 2024 NFL season vividly demonstrated that team health can be as impactful as talent when it comes to on-field success. Using our SIC Health Score ratings, we dive deep into which NFL teams suffered the most from injuries, who maintained superior health, and how these trends might influence the upcoming 2025 NFL season.

Least Healthy Teams in 2024

1. Carolina Panthers (SIC Score: 78.1)

The Carolina Panthers had the unfortunate distinction of being the NFL’s least healthy team in 2024, with an average SIC Health Score of just 78.1 leading to just five wins. Persistent injuries disrupted key positions throughout the season, significantly hindering their performance and roster stability. Particularly troubling were injuries to defensive tackle (Brown), linebackers (Thompson, Wallace, Cherelus), and running back (Brooks).

2. San Francisco 49ers (SIC Score: 79.0)

Coming close behind were the San Francisco 49ers, cited by Aaron Schatz at FTN Fantasy as the league's most injury-plagued team during the season using the adjusted games lost numbers. The 49ers at times lost multiple key starters, notably in skill positions including running back (Christian McCaffrey, Elijah Mitchell, Jordan Mason) and wide receiver (Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, Jauan Jennings, Ricky Pearsall) and several key players on defensive units, severely reducing their competitiveness in a tough NFC West.

Their low SIC Score highlights the depth and severity of injuries they faced, drastically impacting their playoff chances as they season progressed and leading to just six wins.

3. New England Patriots (SIC Score: 81.0)

The Patriots faced considerable health setbacks in 2024, particularly with key starters in the trenches and secondary including on the offensive line (Andrews, Strange, Onwenu) and defensive front (Barmore, Bentley). These persistent injuries created noticeable disruptions in their offensive rhythm and overall team synergy, reflected by their SIC Score below the league average.

4. New Orleans Saints (SIC Score: 81.7)

New Orleans battled injuries primarily on the offensive side, notably quarterback instability and setbacks at receiver and running back positions. The Saints had to deal with injuries to key players including Derek Carr, Chris Olave, Alvin Kamara, Taysom Hill and many more, limiting them to just five wins. Sports Info Solutions also pinpointed the Saints as significantly impacted by injuries, limiting their potential and contributing to disappointing overall performance.

5. Miami Dolphins (SIC Score: 81.8)

Miami struggled significantly with injuries, particularly impacting their skill positions and secondary. Key players dealing with injuries including Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, Jaelan Phillips, Badley Chubb, resulting in eight wins for the season. Rotowire analysis also highlighted how Dolphins’ key players missed critical games, leading to challenges in maintaining offensive consistency and defensive efficiency.

Healthiest Teams in 2024

1. Baltimore Ravens (SIC Score: 91.0)

The Baltimore Ravens stood out prominently as the healthiest team in 2024, boasting the league's top SIC Score helping them achieve 12 wins. Our friends at FTN Fantasy agreed on the Ravens as the healthiest team and described their health status as exceptionally strong, facilitating stability and consistent high-level performance throughout the season. Key starters remained largely injury-free, which significantly benefited their playoff push.

2. Atlanta Falcons (SIC Score: 90.5)

Atlanta ranked just behind Baltimore, maintaining strong team health throughout the season. The Falcons’ health advantage enabled continuity on offense and defense, however the team could not take advantage of this, only achieving eight wins and being an outlier as a team significantly underperforming their health advantages.

3. Minnesota Vikings (SIC Score: 90.2)

Minnesota showcased notable durability, specifically in key positions such as quarterback and receiver, contributing to their consistent offensive production. The recruitment of Sam Darnold last offseason proved to be extremely valuable move as he replaced J.J. McCarthy as the starting QB when McCarthy suffered a season-ending injury in the preseason. This durability supported their strong record with 14 wins, highlighting the direct correlation between health and performance.

4. Philadelphia Eagles (SIC Score: 89.9)

The Eagles continued their trend of strong health, facilitating their deep playoff run after 14 regular season wins and going on to win the Super Bowl. Philadelphia have now managed to be one of the healthiest teams in back-to-back seasons.

5. Denver Broncos (SIC Score: 89.4)

Denver secured a spot among the league’s healthiest teams, significantly benefiting from low injury rates at skill positions.

Implications for the 2025 NFL Season

The 2024 season demonstrated a clear pattern: healthier teams consistently outperformed their injury-plagued counterparts, reflecting how essential maintaining player health is for long-term success.

For the 2024 NFL season SIC Health Score ratings we can confidently conclude:

  • Healthier than average teams exceeded their expected win total

  • Teams who were below average health ratings were under their expected win total

Teams to Watch in 2025:

  • Baltimore Ravens & Philadelphia Eagles: Both teams have made deep playoff runs in 2024 assisted by their talent, scheme and leading player health ratings. Will they be able to enable their talented players to have success again in 2025, or will their schemes be disrupted by significant injuries?

  • San Francisco 49ers & Carolina Panthers: Probability would say both teams should improve on their health issues from 2024. The 49ers, especially impacted by injuries in consecutive seasons, have been unlucky and should return to being closer to average health.
