UPDATE: The Wolves still consider Anthony Edwards week-to-week
The Minnesota Timberwolves appeared to be in full control of their playoff series after building a 3-1 lead over the Denver Nuggets, but that momentum has quickly been overshadowed by a pair of devastating injuries. Minnesota now faces serious uncertainty as two key backcourt players went down in separate setbacks.
The first blow came when Donte DiVincenzo suffered a ruptured Achilles, an injury that immediately ended his postseason and could keep him out of most of next season as well. DiVincenzo had provided valuable depth, perimeter shooting, and defensive toughness, making him an important piece of Minnesota’s playoff rotation.
Later, the Timberwolves were dealt an even bigger loss when star guard Anthony Edwards was diagnosed with a bone bruise and hyperextension in his left knee. Edwards is expected to miss multiple weeks, removing Minnesota’s top scorer and emotional leader at a critical point in the postseason. His ability to create offense and take over games has been central to the team’s success all year.
According to Pro Football Doc, Edwards will not return against the Nuggets and may not be able to return in the second round if Minnesota closes out the series.
“He’s not coming back for the Denver series,” Pro Football Doc said. “They’ve got to close out up 3-1. They’ve got to figure out a way to close that out without Anthony Edwards. Could he come back in Round 2? Maybe. Round 3 becomes likely.”
Now, despite being one win away from eliminating Denver, the Timberwolves must push forward with a depleted roster. Julius Randle, Rudy Gobert, and Jaden McDaniels will need to carry an even larger load as Minnesota tries to keep its championship hopes alive in the face of mounting adversity.
