Mike Williams on Track for Week 1 Return After Torn ACL

Update: (7/18/24) Mike Williams was placed on the PUP list. Williams can come off the PUP list at any point throughout training camp

New York Jets wide receiver Mike Williams is on course to return in Week 1 as he recovers from a torn left ACL sustained in Week 3 of last season. Williams, who joined the Jets this offseason, has not yet been cleared for on-field drills with the team.

Pro Football Docs are optimistic that Williams will be ready to play when the Jets face the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football in Week 1. Last season running back Breece Hall was on a similar recovery timeline as Williams but Pro Football Docs do not share the same concern for Williams as they did for Hall. Known for his straight-line speed and deep-threat capabilities, Williams' play style, which relies less on cutting and precise route running, is expected to aid his return.

Head Coach Robert Saleh did not give a timeline for when Williams may be cleared for football activity.

Integration into the Jets' Offense

While his physical recovery is progressing well, there is concern about how Williams will fit into the Jets' offensive system. With quarterback Aaron Rodgers playing only four snaps in his first season with the team, the Jets ranked 29th in total offense. However, Williams is expected to assume the #2 wide receiver role, similar to his position with the Chargers.
