Michael Thomas Injury: Veteran Saints WR Heading for Toe Surgery

New Orleans Saints wideout Michael Thomas will undergo toe surgery and is not expected to return this season, head coach Dennis Allen told reporters Thursday.

Thomas will undergo surgery to fix a second toe dislocation that he suffered in Week 3.

That surgery typically carries a recovery timeline of at least three months, ruling out any chance for a return this season, according to the Pro Football Docs.

Allen told reporters that Thomas attempted to rehab the injury and avoid surgery, but his toe did not respond as expected.

Second toe dislocations are fairly rare in football, as turf toe injuries to the big toe typically limit wide receivers.

By video, the injury appeared to be on Thomas' right foot, the opposite side of his ankle injury that caused him to miss 27 games in 2020 and 2021.

The Pro Football Docs advised caution prior to the season because of Thomas' lingering left ankle issues.

The 29-year-old had 16 catches for 171 yards and 3 touchdowns in three games this season.

When he returns next year he will have two years left on his contract and represents $47.7 in dead cap over the next four seasons.

New Orleans Saints Super Bowl LVII Odds

The Saints (3-5) are at +8500 to win the Super Bowl and +410 to win the NFC South, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

Baltimore heads to New Orleans in Week 9, with the Ravens favored by 2.5 points and the over/under at 47.5.
