Micah Handlogten Injury Update

University of Florida sophomore center Micah Handlogten suffered a severe lower left leg injury in the SEC conference tournament finals against Auburn on Sunday.

By video, Handlogten experienced an open tibia/fibula fracture when the bones snapped as he landed from jumping up for a rebound during the first half, according to our panel of doctors.

He will undergo emergency surgery to minimize the risk of infection, including cleaning the wound and placing a rod in his leg to aid healing.

Handlogten will miss the NCAA tournament and would be fortunate to return at some point during the next college season.

The 7-foot-1 sophomore is averaging 5.5 points and 7.1 rebounds in 19.5 minutes per game while shooting 62.2% from the field.

Paul George suffered a similar injury in August 2014. There's hope the injury is not as severe as the fracture/dislocation Alex Smith suffered in November 2018.
