Arizona Cardinals 2nd year wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. exited Sunday’s game after sustaining a concussion in the first half against the Indianapolis Colts. The injury occurred when Harrison’s head hit the turf following a tackle, and he was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the game after evaluation in the medical tent. He will now enter the NFL’s concussion protocol, and his availability moving forward will depend on how quickly he clears each stage.
This marks at least the second documented concussion of Harrison’s professional career and the third known in his football history. He suffered a concussion during his rookie 2024 season in a Week 6 game against the Green Bay Packers, missing time before eventually returning to finish the year with 885 yards and eight touchdowns. Harrison also sustained a notable concussion in college during the 2022 Peach Bowl while at Ohio State, when a helmet-to-helmet hit knocked him out of the game — an injury that many believe changed the outcome of that playoff matchup.
With multiple concussions on record, Harrison faces elevated medical concern regarding cumulative head trauma and potential long-term effects. Players who experience repeated concussions often deal with prolonged recovery timelines and increased susceptibility to future incidents. The Cardinals will likely take a cautious approach with their young star, who is viewed as a foundational piece of their offense.
For now, Harrison’s short-term outlook hinges on his symptom resolution and neurological testing results, which can vary significantly from player to player. Given his history, a conservative return plan is expected, as both the team and medical staff prioritize his long-term health over immediate availability.
