Markquis Nowell Injury: Kansas State PG May Be Limited By Ankle Against FAU

Kansas State point guard Markquis Nowell suffered a right ankle injury early in the second half of the team’s 98-93 thrilling overtime victory against the Michigan State Spartans, but returned to finish the game.

Despite the injury, Nowell set the record for assists in an NCAA tournament with 19.

By video, Nowell suffered a mild inversion ankle sprain when he took a wrong step while attempting to go up for a layup with just under 16 minutes remaining.

He missed roughly four minutes of gametime, then returned and did not leave. Nowell finished with 20 points, 19 assists, 3 rebounds and 5 steals in 43 minutes of action.

His mobility in the Elite Eight matchup against Florida Atlantic University depends on overnight swelling and is complicated by the quick turnaround.

The fact he was able to return in the same game does not mean he will play at 100% on Saturday against FAU.

Undoubtedly he will receive treatment to keep the swelling at a minimum, but he will likely have much less mobility in Saturday’s Elite Eight contest.
