Manny Machado Ankle Injury To Keep Him Out Past All-Star Break

Padres star 3B Manny Machado was injured against the Colorado Rockies and left Sunday’s matchup in the first inning with what appears to be a left ankle injury.

Machado was attended to immediately after his foot slid off the first base bag causing his foot to turn when landing in the dirt after trying to leg out an infield single. The flashy third baseman was unable to walk off on his own, clearly struggling to but weight on the left foot.

By video analysis, our panel of Pro Baseball Docs believe Machado suffered a Grade 3 ankle inversion sprain undoubtedly meaning lateral ligaments were torn but we expect no fracture as has already been reported. The stud faces a lengthy absence that will stretch into All-Star break, and that is just the best case scenario.

Expect an IL stint and absence that will linger past the All-Star break.

Tough sledding for the Padres who have played phenomenal baseball without their All-Star SS Fernando Tatis Jr. who is on the IL recovering from an offseason wrist injury that we have covered extensively at sicscore.com. Without both, San Diego will struggle to produce runs and will need to rely fellow infielders Jake Cronenworth and Luke Voit for offense moving forward.

At this point, it is a deadlock on which star can return first with both at least out till the end of July.

Before the injury, the former Dodger was clicking at an MVP-caliber pace hitting .329 with 12 dingers and 46 RBIs.
