LSU Injury report: Will Jayden Daniels be able to play versus Georgia?

LSU has not made the college football playoff or SEC Championship since 2019. They had a chance to do both until suffering a devastating 38-23 loss to Texas A&M (5-7). The Tigers (9-3) were the fifth seed going into the game, and with an Ohio State loss, it seemed all but guaranteed they would have a shot at the CFB playoffs.

Then in the fourth quarter, quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered an ankle injury, which caused him to miss the remainder of the game.

Head coach Brian Kelly is "pretty optimistic" that Daniels will practice this week, with intentions to play versus Georgia this Saturday in the SEC Championship.

Kelly added that Daniels didn't suffer a high ankle sprain even though he wore a boot. He concluded that Daniel's injury exam was looking good.

But, even if Daniels does suit up on Saturday, it won't be easy against a vaunted Georgia defensive line. Daniels has already been sacked 41 times this season, an average of about four sacks a game, placing Georgia 122nd among FBS schools.

These hits might be taking a toll on Daniels's body, and battling an injury won't improve things. Daniels's mobility has been crucial for the Tiger offense this season, rushing for 824 yards and 11 rushing touchdowns. Also, he's been able to break the pocket to make throws all season. Daniels has completed 238 or 347 passes for 2,566 yards and 15 touchdowns.

If Daniels cannot play, the loss would be enormous for Georgia.
